Day 31

After breakfast at the Reykjavík hostel, I was in no hurry to leave, as I need to plan my ride for today and look into accommodation for the next couple of days.

At last, my boots are dry on the inside, so I can wear my normal boot socks!

With the big paper map spread out on a table and my mobile phone in my hand, I looked for some more interesting roads to ride. It was funny, because I was trying to zoom into the paper map with my fingers as I was on the phone. And guess what? It doesn’t work!

Unfortunately, nearly all hostels on my route, appear to be fully booked for the next couple of days. So, with no further progress on the accommodation bookings, I just concentrated on today’s route.

I said goodbye to the last member of the group, and rode off to start a few more days of solo riding, heading north towards the ferry port.

Riding out of Reykjavik was a busy affair. I know it is Saturday, but the roads are heaving and progress is slow. I was heading for some hopefully quiet costal road, but if it is going to be like this all the way, then I will change my mind.

It is strange, I don’t mind riding on my own, but the transition between the group and solo, I tend to feel a bit low.

However, a few good photo stops get my mind thinking about something else.

Thankfully, not many people went my route, heading to Grindavík. Probably because the road is a no through road after the recent volcanic eruptions.

I arrived at the hostel and then went for a short walk along the coastal path, taking some more photos.

Despite not travelling far today, I was absolutely worn out, so retired early to get a good night's sleep.
