Day 42

Today was supposed to be an easy, stress free 30-minute ride to the channel tunnel in Calais.

However, due to a mishap of my doing yesterday, I had a 370 km round trip detour to do first.

Now, yesterday ended with a bit of a sour note, as when I got to my hotel in France, I realised that I had lost my wallet. So, after locking the cards, which due to being app controlled, was a very quick and easy task. I then thought about the contents, accepted the loss and said, shit happens, and it is all a part of the adventure.

However, this morning I managed to contact the service station where I last used my card, and with a massive dose of luck, they actually had my wallet in the lost property box.

Unfortunately, this service station was located in Belgium, some two hours away.

So, I changed my euro tunnel departure time to later in the day and rode off to get my wallet back. It was another long stint on the dual carriageway system, with added delays due to road works, I ended up being a few minutes late for my check-in at the euro tunnel in Calais. I then run into another slight issue after checking in because the car behind came to close to me before I went through the barrier. This meant that the cameras detected the car number plate and wouldn’t open the barrier for me. A member of staff came over and sorted it out for me, and even with that additional delay, I still managed to get my allocated train, and so in approximately 40 minutes, I was back to the UK.

This was then followed by my ride home via motorways and dual carriageways, that were in nowhere near as good as condition as the European ones I had been riding for the past few days.

Another tiring day but it is good to be home after this excellent trip.

Here you can see where I have ridden in Iceland!

And here is my route from UK to Denmark, and then the route back again.

So, over the last 42 days, I have ridden approximately 6350 miles.

The bike has run well the whole trip, despite the abuse it has been through. But now the bike will take a lot of cleaning, then will need servicing and a thorough check over, before I ride it any further.

I hope you have enjoyed the blog and thanks for following me on this amazing journey.
